This episode was a roller coaster. The dog saved Maomao and Jinshi from being found in an embarrassing position. Dignified frog 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, Maomao is so smart to refuse to listen to Jinshi. Yeah, some information is dangerous for the listener.

Above all else in this episode I just feel bad for Jinshi. The poor guy has wanted to tell Maomao his secret for so long and all she did was be callous and mocking towards him. He didn't deserve that. I know the show tries to play it off as comedy but all I saw was pain. The man tries pouring his heart out only to be coldly shut down. Maomao and her delusions and if she doesn't know hos secret that would somehow make her separated from the whole thing. As if she isn't already neck deep in Palace politics! I swear, this girl is so smart yet so dumb!! She can't see the pain Jinshi is in yet she can solve mysteries at the drop of a hat. I'm tempted to call her pathetic and cowardly for her actions in this episode. I didn't like her treatment of Jinshi for a second. Gaoshun and his struggles were interesting, how he's left his previous life behind to serve. Acknowledging that Jinshi is the heir to the throne until the emperor has a son. Someone tried to take him out whilst on this hunt, they no doubt won't stop here.

Mao instead of coming up with some stupid things with the frog should have just said that she doesn't feel like learning secrets because they're just problems and threats, but she panicked. Sometimes she can be stupid too. lol

Maybe I'm weird but I really don't understand what's romantic or hot in scenes that make Mao feel uncomfortable. And that's practically every ''closer'' scene of her with Jinshi.
Their normal conversations are much more pleasant than scenes where Jinshi is clinging to her and she flinches, asks him to leave her alone, wonders how she can escape etc.It was the same in this scene, good thing that the smart but ugly af dog Lihaku saved her. It's not romantic. It's very one-sided for now. Imagine if Jinshi wasn't beautiful but ugly or average, then everyone would call him a pervert But since he's beautiful, he can get away with a lot of creepy actions. Mao is literally more attracted and excited by Bezoar than Jinshi XD

It's good to finally know Jinshi's real name. I hope this drama about his origins ends soon because it's been going on for quite some time.
@Jollyne7 Did you just call that dog ugly????!!!????? What kind of monster are you??????? That dog just saved them and found the shooters. What is wrong with you???????

The frog scene/jokes were funny, but Jinshi failing to tell Maomao who he really is got me feeling a bit frustrated. Just tell her already. There's too much at stake for him to not prioritize this. And the followup ox bezoar scene was just.... not funny.
@eksratu Why are you blaming Jinshi?? Did you not watch this episode or something?? He tried TWICE to tell her and SHE refused to listen. Come on

That marks the second time Jinshi has made an unwanted advance on Maomao. Or at least the second time I'm noticing. Normal for the era, I guess, but this is a fictional world. Anyways, just keeping track.

Also, I hope Jinshi trying and failing to tell Maomao his "secret" does not become a trend.. That would be kinda annoying.

And it seems the official fact is that Jinshi is the Emperor's younger brother. I don't know why this is treated as an important secret but sure, I guess. Given the baby swap incident, there's a good chance Jinshi is actually the Emperor's son. I was a bit confused on which event was which but this episode cleared it up.

Jinshi really is the Heroine lol

that frog scene I believe was some sort of role reversal with the accidental boob grab trope.

Also, Jinshi should've told her first before giving the Ox boar. Poor guy xD

Very mixed feelings about this one, leaning slightly negative overall. On the one hand, from a narrative standpoint, I feel like the writing did a good job of conveying the characters' complex motivations in believable interactions that were consistent with how the characters would actually act given their previous characterization. On the other hand, the cave scene was just so incredibly uncomfortable to watch (both because of the repeated physical pain inflicted on sensitive parts and the subsequent unwanted advance).

The main impression I came away with was that it was a really bad look for Jinshi's character, honestly, given the obvious lack of consent and power dynamics at play, whatever frustrations he might have felt given his situation and Maomao's refusal to hear him out. Is it believable that he would act in that way given his character motivations? Yes. Did it make me feel like I might not be able to really like the character anymore? Also yes.

I mean, I'm glad that they had the (IMO well-written) scene at the end to smooth things over, but it still left me feeling awkward about the whole thing, and I get the sense (especially given the build-up it received last week) that the unwanted advance especially was meant to be viewed by the writers as something altogether positive, whereas I really didn't like seeing it.

Anyway, if the preview/title is any indication, not looking forward to the next episode at all, very well might skip. Been feeling like the show has been losing its appeal for me since the colored doors episode (which I thought was excellent), but still hoping that changes. Still really like Maomao as a character and feel like she carries the show, but idk if that'll be enough if I start disliking Jinshi, since he's clearly going to be the focus of the plot going forward. But I'm hoping that this was a one-time event and that the romance elements are handled better moving forward.

@Jollyne7 Imma agree with you on this one. I'm no moralist, but I was kinda put off by that once scene tbh I was like bro get off of her. I see people are frustrated that she refuses to listen but she's trying to stay ignorant to avoid troubles. Even Gaoshun says at the end that she is "useful." The girl just wants to test her poisons and medicines! It's anime...I know LOL

But I enjoyed the last scene! That's more like it!

The Frog Prince, Ka(eru) Zuigetsu. wwwww

PEAK episode. Really love all these build ups and reveals using the characters thoughts (Gaoshun, Maomao)

Maomao is finally aware of Jinshi's Frog, but still refuses to learn his true identity.
Maomao saying she will make Jinshi a real eunuch if she ever gets involved in a problem hahaha, she's scary.

Let the romance cook a little bit more, we will eventually get there.
For now let's focus on the plot and solving mysteries yeah?!

I get where a lot of people’s frustrations lie in this episode - particularly in the cave scene, but my personal view isn’t leaning towards Maomao feeling overly uncomfortable or being ‘forced ‘ into a situation, really if anything I thought this was the first time we’ve seen her not react negatively to his advances, or forcefully pushing him away. It appears that she herself wasn’t sure how to feel, and the glimmer in her eyes indicated that she may have finally started seeing Jinshi in a different light. Especially when he was clearly leaning in for a kiss and she didn’t react by avoiding it like she might have done before. Just because she was taken aback doesn’t necessarily mean she was being taken advantage of in the scenario.

If anything, her referencing their status difference was her reinforcing the fact that there’s no way he could be into her because she is simply a ‘servant girl’, and doesn’t see herself as anything more to him. It seems like she has always seen herself as beneath a lot of the characters, including him. (Though for the time period this isn’t uncommon) She does explain her lack of social skills in a childhood flashback so that would explain why she might be missing his signals and is oblivious to his clear interest in her.

Although I do agree with the leg lifting thing being a little overboard, but seems like he is resulting in more direct approaches to get through to her, especially when she is being extra difficult to convince or willing to hear him out (not that that’s a reason to go to those extremes) just that’s just my hunch. But in general, I think some people have taken the scene a little out of context. I was taken aback by it myself as things have been pretty tame up until now, but interested to see what direction their relationship goes into next. God forbid we start getting fanservice like the next ep preview is teasing, because it will be a real blow to the series

Seem like our eunuch isn't a eunuch at least that's what's was clearly suggested this episode and has been hinted for a while now.
That again the past few episodes pretty much confirms that Jinshi has a double identity.
The question is what will Maomao do with this information and will it affect her future.

it's already confirmed during season 1.

One more episode within the excellence standards of the series!

Maomao discovered something relevant about Jinshi... the way she is, after leaving behind her denial mind state, she will unmask him herself, or he will tell her about himself, what comes first.

Expecting both the story and the couple to develop in some neat ways!

AHHH the scene we all wanted is finally here. I do feel a bit of sympathy for Jinshi since it must be frustrating to get a message across whilst Moamoa is too caught up in her own bubble or as someone here said 'has feelings or awareness like a rock' when it comes to these things!!!!!!!

compared to most romance dramas this is fast paced. the conflict is that as long as maomao gets involved in the royal palace, her wits and intellect has proved useful in solving many of the palace's assassination attempts that she's gonna eventually come to their biggest secret. there's few that jinshi can trust and maomao is the luckiest draw that they came across.

sharing that secret is both a personal and strategic benefit, even the people who already know it can hold it for so long. The biggest roadblock is jinshi's affection for maomao and what maomao actually want to do. unfortunately maomao denies it but the silver lining is that she doesn't deny jinshi as a person nor their growing bond. the end just confirms she wants jinshi to be the same jinshi she knew and that person that we see bantering and solving the palace's problems together.

Jinshi was fine with that because he’s already uncomfortable with his position—as both Maomao’s superior and, even more so, as a prince, a role that I imagine feels quite isolating.

The comment from Maomao about how she isn't good at reading people confirmed for me she is autistic. I had this theory for some time already - she has intense interests, misses social cues, pattern recognition is her main tool, and everyone around her sees her as a bit of a weird one. we can even see stimming when she is very happy. I wonder if it's intentional by the author, but either way she is a great representation for high masking, female autistic people. Love to see it!

No? What she did made sense on several levels.

Their way of communication is much more indirect and about keeping up appearances. So, even if everyone knew, what was going on in that situation, there would still be incentive to somehow 'politely' talk around or just avoid it.

Then, apart from her being blunt with words sometimes, she very much understands the implications of her low status (or more precisely, the low status any other low maid would have in her place). Half of her inner monologues, and sometimes what she says out loud, does directly deal with or in some way factor in how a low maid's life isn't worth anything and that they live in danger, always. So, feinting ignorance (as their version of plausible deniability) is the sensitive choice.

Now, with that in mind, on to the writing: It just had to be done that way because it was f'ing comedy gold! I mean, come on, what an opportunity!

Not weird at all. I get that, too, and originally just wanted to comment how the rapey pin down wasn't needed (and, really, it wasn't). But then again, I'm on the fence. Her slight disgust at his über bishounen antics (while at the same time calmly analysing how he is indeed hot af), him hopelessly falling for her, her ignorance towards that ... ahh, I can't get enough of it. And I would be OK with her developing romantic feelings for him, as long as it doesn't go Stockholm syndrome (or Gaslighting, the Animation) - which it probably won't given how it went so far.
